Rhodieware
by Linda Stone
Stoneware Pottery designed in the
motif of the Pacific Northwest!
Rhodieware is high fired stoneware pottery designed to be attractive on
the countertop and in the garden. The Rhododendron so predominant in the
Pacific Northwest landscape is the subject of the majolica glaze. The
Rhodie motif is hand applied to each piece with a sumi ink brush in the
Asian Art tradition of portraying the growth stage of the plant from bud
to bloom.
The
cool white base of the majolica glaze, like the foggy white overcast
skies in the Pacific Northwest creates the perfect background for
showing off the vibrant color of the Rhododendrons. The red brown color
of the unglazed clay represents the beaches of the Northwest coast bound
by a cobalt blue band of sky and sea.
Each
piece is produced on the potter?s wheel and then glazed to cone 5. The
glaze is lead-free, ovenware, microwave and dishwasher proof. Stoneware
is extremely durable and designed to last a lifetime. However, rapid
cooling from oven to cold water is not recommended for the surface of
the glaze. |
